Ashley Velez is an award-winning multimedia journalist, documentary filmmaker, and educator with a passion for amplifying marginalized voices and exploring the intersections of culture, identity, and storytelling.
Ashley has worked on impactful content across platforms, including the documentary television series Down In The Valley on STARZ and CNN's United Shades of America. Her work has also been featured on Spotify, The Root, BET, Time's Up, The National African American Museum and more. She has earned multiple awards and nominations in the digital media space for her innovative storytelling. In 2021, she was named a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree in media.
A Philadelphia native, Ashley earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Villanova University and her Master’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Southern California. Currently, Ashley is a lecturer at John Jay College, where she teaches courses in digital video production, documentary filmmaking, and media literacy, while continuing to create powerful content.
Ashley is based in Brooklyn, New York.
